UN expresses disappointment on Nepal, UNIM head meets Prachanda

Kathmandu, Oct 6 (UNI) The United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) head Ian Martin and CPN-Maoist Chairman Prachanda held discussions today over the recent political developments in the country.

The meeting was held early this morning following the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon expressing disappointment over the indefinite postponement of November 22 Constituent Assembly elections in the Himalayan nation.

''The meeting mainly focused on the political developments and the implementation of the previous agreements reached between the government and the CPN-M,'' Head of the United Maoist leader Dinanath Sharma, who was also present in the meeting, was quoted as saying by Kantipur.

According to Sharma, Mr Martin asked the Maoists Chairman in what direction the political developments would go following the postponement of the polls. The UNIM head also stressed the need for strengthening the peace process.

Earlier, the UN Chief had stressed that the people of Nepal deserved an opportunity to express their political aspirations and urged the seven-party alliance, which comprises the interim coalition government, ''to redouble efforts so that outstanding issues can be expeditiously resolved and the election held very soon''.

Rajasthan: 1 held in MLA quarter's murder

Jaipur, Oct 6: Police today arrested a youth in connection with the murder of a teenage girl in the Jyothi Nagar area. Additional SP (south) Rajesh Singh said Jamal Khan, a resident of Bhogpura slum custer, was arrested in this connection. The body of an 18-year-old girl, Rekha, was found in a pool of blood with her head smashed in the garage of the quarter of BJP MLA Ramrattan Berva, who represents the Shahpura consituency in Bhilwara district. UP: Radha-Krishna idol worth Rs 1 cr stolen

Fatehpur, Oct 6: Masked burglars stormed into a century-old temple in the Sultanpur Ghosh area of the city and decamped with a precious 'ashtadhatu' idol of Radha-Krishna, estimated on Rs one crore in the international market. The burglary occurred at an ancient temple, 60 km away from the district headquarters, where the precious idol was found missing this morning. In February, unidentified men had made off with the gold jewellery of Radha-Krishna. A manhunt had been launched. UNI.....

UP: Another ragging incident in Agra

Agra, Oct 6: Yet another ragging incident has been reported in the Taj city after a similar incident last Monday in which a B.Tech student of the Anand Engineering College was pushed off a campus building, Yesterday, some senior students of the IET Engineering Institute stormed a classroom and indulged in ragging. They even misbehaved with their teachers before leaving the institute.
