Two Bihar police officers suspended for custodial death

Sitamarhi, Oct 6 (UNI) The Bihar government today suspended two police officials and transferred several others in connection with the custodial death of CPI(ML) divisional secretary of Runnisaidpur, Bikaoo Sahni, here yesterday.

Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Muzaffarpur Range, Gupteshwar Pandey told UNI that the orders of immediate suspension and transfer of concerned police officers had been issued after the CPI(ML) leader, arrested in connection with an alleged rape case, died in police custody at the Dumra police station yesterday.

Later people, including relatives of the deceased leader, demonstrated before the Dumra police station for several hours holding the officer-in-charge and other police personnel 'responsible' for the death.

Taking immediate cognizance of the matter, the OC and another officer were suspended with immediate effect, while all other policemen of Dumra Police station were transferred forthwith.

Inspector General of Police, Muzaffarpur Range, Krishna Chaudhry has been asked to investigate the custodial death issue and submit a detailed report soon.

British lawmakers call for ID fraud tsar

LONDON, Oct 6 (Reuters) A cross-party group of lawmakers today called on the government to create an ''identity fraud tsar'' to tackle a growing crime that is estimated to cost Britain 1.7 billion pounds a year. The All Party Group on Identity Fraud said the role was needed to coordinate action by the government, police, and businesses, and also to raise awareness of the problem.
