Temperatures fall after snow in higher reaches of HP

Shimla, Oct 6 (UNI) The higher areas of Lahaul Spiti and Kinnuar districts of Himachal Pradesh were experiencing snow since this morning, while lower areas were lashed by rain, plummeting temperatures in the hill-state.

The Met office today said several mountain peaks and passes were receiving snowfall for the last few days following which the entire tribal belt and surrounding areas were under intense coldwave conditions.

Several important roads and passes, including Baralachala Pass, had also received snow this week, forcing the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) to declare that Manali-Sarchu and Tandi-Killar-Sansari roads would be closed for vehicular traffic from October 31, this year.

The BRO spokesman said the extreme weather conditions and heavy snowfall would hamper movement of vehicles during the winter season.

Since BRO would not be in a position to carry out any snow clearing operations or evacuate anyone after October 31, the local people were advised not try crossing over these passes during the winters, he said.

Meanwhile, Met office said thick clouds were also hovering over the Kullu and Chamba districts.

SHANGHAI, Oct 6 (Reuters) McLaren boss Ron Dennis says he is not superstitious but is still taking nothing for granted ahead of a Chinese Grand Prix that could end his team's long wait for a Formula One title tomorrow.
