Jamshedpur, Oct 06 (UNI) Mr Sudesh Mahto was unanimously reelected the president of All Jharkhand Students' Union (AJSU) at the end of the party's three-day convention at Tulsi Bhawan here today.
Mr Mahto assumed the post for the third time in a row since 2002.
Adopting the party's political resolutions on the final session of the concluding day, Mr Mahto was entructed to form the central committee of the party.
Talking to newspersons soon after his reelection, Mr Mahto said the AJSU was prepared to face the mid-term poll in the state. '' Our aim is not winning the election alone but we want to work for interests of the state and the region, '' he said.
Mr Mahto said the basic aim of the party was to develop group leadership from the grassroot level.
About the party leader and the state Minister of the UPA government Chandra Prakash Choudhary, Mr Mahto said it was up to him whether he would remain in the UPA. '' The party has allowed him to take individual decision, '' he said.
The AJSU is a constituent of the NDA and Mr Mahto and Mr Choudhary were the Ministers of the previous Arjun Munda-led NDA government in the state.
But Mr Choudhary shifted his allegiance to the UPA and became a Minister of the Madhu Koda government.
Mr Mahto, however, refused to comment on founder of the AJSU Surya Singh Besra's allegation that he was misusing the name of the organisation by converting it to a political party through fradulent means.
Talking about the resolutions adopted in the past three days, Mr Mahto said, '' Our main thrust will be on education for the rural poor and also on agriculture. Besides, the party's focus will be on 'Jal, Jungle aur Jamin' and women empowerment, '' the AJSU supremo said.
Among other resolutions passed after the brain-storming sessions, the AJSU had decided to work for the development of tourism in the state and to identify the tourist spots which were neglected and could be developed as major tourist spots.
The party would also form ''Kala Sahitya Acadmy'' to encourage art and culture in the state and had drawn plans to revive the folk dances like Jhumur and Sohrai, said party spokesman Dev Sharan Bhagat.
Mr Bhagat said the party would apprise the people of the Chhotanagpur and Santhal Parganas Tenacncy Acts, which were enforced by the Britishers.
Hundereds of AJSU activists from Jharkhand, Bihar and Orissa and several leaders took part in the biennial conclave.
