Sarpanch suspended over land misuse

Fatehgarh Sahib, Oct 6 (UNI) Sarpanch of village Jallah, Gurstinder Singh Jallah, was suspended by Director Rural Development and Panchyats Department today for alleged misuse of common land and other irregularities.

The suspension order was issued today by the Director of the department Gurdev Singh Sidhu against Gurstinder Singh Jallah, also vice-president of District Congress Committee, Fatehgarh Sahib.

The Director recommended action against section 20 of Punjab Panchyati Raj Act, 1994 and ordered Jallah not to participate in any Panchyat work in future.

District Development and Panchyat Officer, Fatehgarh Sahib and Block Development and Panchayat Officer, Sirhind has sent reports to the department against the Sarpanch over allegations of encroachment on shamlat (common) land and other serious charges against Jallah.

When contacted, Jallah who is Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Rajinder Kaur Bhattal's close confidant, denied the charges and said that he is politically victimised.

BSF guns down Bangladeshi cattle smuggler

Basirhat, Oct 6 (UNI) The BSF, guarding the international border with Bangladesh under Swarupnagar police station, gunned down a Bangladeshi smuggler early today. Police here said the BSF opened fire on one Khaled Dalal, a Bangladeshi national, while he trying to cross the border with cattle through Tarali Mollapara. Police also informed that the accused used to smuggle cattle with the help of his relatives staying here. UNI.....
