Putin makes Russian Atomic Energy Agency a state corporation

Moscow, Oct 6 (UNI) Russian President Vladimir Putin has unexpectedly introduced a bill into the State Duma, lower house of parliament, to turn the Federal Atomic Energy Agency (Rosatom) in to a state corporation.

The bill introduced in parliament yesterday, will for the first time create a state corporation from an agency of the executive branch of the government.

It is expected to be passed next January, after the election of the Duma in December. The text of the bill is yet to be published.

Russian media said, Rosatom head Sergei Kiriyenko will be the General Director of the new state corporation. The chairman of the supervisory board will be the head of the presidential executive staff Sergei Sobyanin. Other board members will be nominated by Prime Minister and appointed by the President.

Like the recently founded state corporations- Rosnanotech, Russian Technologies and VEB Development Bank- Rosatom will be directly subordinated by the government but will be financially independent.

The corporation will be responsible for atomic energy and and will also contribute to national defence and scientific research.

Weaponry, research and some safety measures will be financed by the federal budget.

12 death sentences, 251 life in Bihar this year

Patna, Oct 6 (UNI) Twelve people have been awarded death sentences and 251 life imprisonment in connection with various criminal cases, including those involving some high-profile politicians in Bihar, so far this year. State police headquarters sources said three influential politicians--former MP Anand Mohan and former MLAs--Akhlaque Ahmad and Arun Kumar were awarded death sentences by a lower court in Patna on October 3 in connection with the murder of former Gopalganj District Magistrate G Krishnaiya, who was beaten to death.....

Chouhan reviews water resource department activities

Bhopal, Oct 6 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today issued directions for ensuring irrigation water supply to farmers upto tail end of canals for making maximum utilisation of created additional irrigation potential. Mr Chouhan, while addressing a review meeting of senior officers of water resources department at Bandh Suraksha Bhawan here, stressed on the need for paying special attention to quality of dam and canal construction work without compromise. Mizoram to renew 'rats' tails-for-money' campaign

Aizawl, Oct 6 (UNI) The Mizoram government has decided to renew the 'rats' tail-for-money', to combat multiplication of rats due to gregarious bamboo flowering or Mautam. Agriculture Minister H Rammawi today announced that the government would offer the farmers Rs two for each rat's tail they collect to encourage killing of rats. A rodent control committee would be set up in all the districts. "If we are taking concerted efforts now, we will no more face this kind of troubles.....
