Pak polls: Police use force on lawyers

Islamabad, Oct 6: Police used batons on a lawyers' demonstration outside the North West Frontier Province Assembly building in Pakistan where polling is underway for the presidential election.

Lawyers are observing a 'black day' today, claiming the polls were unconstitutional.

Police resorted to a baton charge to prevent the slogan shouting lawyers from entering the Assembly. Later, enraged demonstraters put an armoured vehicle on fire.

Muslim League-Q parliamentary leader in the NWFP Assembly Mushtaque Ghani claimed that at least 34 members had reached the House for casting votes in favour of President Pervez Musharraf, while no member of the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal was present.
