National seminar on LTA technology October 12-13

Chandigarh, Oct 6 (UNI) A national seminar on 'Strategic Applications of Lighter than Air Vehicles at High Altitudes (SALTA-2007)' would be organised at the Snow and Avalanche Study Establishment (SASE) Headquarters at Manali on October 12-13.

Dr R N Sarwade, Director, SASE, informed reporters here today that the seminar was being jointly organised by SASE, Chandigarh; the Regional Centre for Military Airworthiness (RCMA) Chandigarh; the Aerial Delivery Research and Development Establishment (ADRDE), Agra and Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory (TBRL), Chandigarh.

The seminar would help fulfilling a long-felt need of providing a single platform that can network technology practitioners from diverse domains of defence research and development (R&D) and bridge the gap between users, manufacturers, designers and also to create awareness about the user requirements and expectations of Lighter-Than-Air (LTA) technologies in high altitude areas, he said.

No nominations for Mormugao Parliamentary by-election so far

Panaji, Oct 6 (UNI) On the second day of filing nominations for the October 30 by-election to the Mormugao Parliamentary constituency in south Goa, no papers were submitted today. The south Goa Collector G P Naik, who is also the returning officer at Margao, said the last date for filing nominations was October 12. Scrutiny will be held on October 13 and withdrawals will be allowed till October 15. UNI.....

Musharraf re-elected for second five year term

Islamabad, Oct 6 (UNI) Securing a fresh five-year term to rule Pakistan, General Pervez Musharraf swept today's presidential poll in the absence of any strong challenge to his supremacy. He secured a total of 671 votes from the electoral college, comprising the National Assembly, Senate and four provincial assemblies, while his only rival, Justice (retd) Wajihuddin Ahmad, secured only eight votes. The third candidate, PPP's Makhdoom Amin Fahim, did not secure a single vote as his party boycotted the election......

HC asks J'kand govt to seek report over Karunanidhi issue

Ranchi, Oct 6 (UNI) Jharkhand High Court today granted one week to the state government to seek information from the officials concerned why the First Information Report (FIR) was not registered against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi for making derogatory remarks about Lord Rama. Justice Amreshwar Sahay passed the order while hearing a writ petition, filed by Ram Subhak Singh, an advocate of Jharkhand High Court. Earlier, Mr Singh had given an application to the Doranda police station here.....
