Munnani criticises move to provide quota for minorities

Puducherry, Oct 6 (UNI) Taking strong exception to the move to provide separate reservation for Muslims and Christians, the Hindu Munnani in Puducherry today said it was against the interest of the nation.

A resolution to this effect was adopted at the executive committee meeting of the Munnani on Friday, according to a release here today.

Pointing out that during the British rule several concessions were extended to Christians and Muslims with the intention to divide and rule, the meeting said politicians now seeking separate quota for minorities with an 'eye on the vote bank.' UNI

Typhoon hits Taiwan, China on alert

TAIPEI, Oct 6 (Reuters) Typhoon Krosa slammed into Taiwan today, with strong winds and heavy rains cutting power and cancelling flights while mainland China braced for what it called a serious impact. Authorities in China ordered the provinces of Zhejiang and Fujian to call more than 27,000 fishing boats back to safe harbours, Xinhua said.
