Mental, physical torture of school children not to be tolerated

New Delhi, Oct 6 (UNI) Describing as 'shameful' the alleged stripping of a six-year-old girl of a school located at Mohan Garden in West Delhi, chairman of the MCD Standing Committee Vijender Gupta today warned the primary schools recognised by MCD that mental and physical torture of any student will not be tolerated.

''Recognition of such schools will be cancelled if any such incident is reported,'' Mr Gupta told mediapersons.

Mr Gupta said senior officers of Education Department of MCD have also been alerted that strict action will be initiated against those officers found guilty of conniving with such schools.

He also appealed to the Parent Teachers Associations that they should stay vigilant and if any such incident comes to their notice, they should immediately inform Director, Primary Education, MCD.

On this occasion, Mr Gupta said that Municipal Corporation of Delhi has rejected the proposal of giving recognition to the above mentioned Star Shine Public School. The proposal was rejected in a meeting of the Standing Committee held on September 26.

Bihar CM urges Planning Commission release funds for flood relief

New Delhi, Oct 6 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today urged Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia for the early release of Rs 17000 crore for the victims of the devastating floods in the state so that the relief work does not suffer. Mr Kumar told Mr Ahluwalia that he has already talked to Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram and Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil in this regard and even Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has had assured.....

Jamshedpur, Oct 6 (UNI) Founder of All Jharkhand Students' Union (AJSU) and Jharkhand People's Party (JPP) general secretary Surya Singh Besra today charged the AJSU president and former Jharkhand Minister Sudesh Mahto with misusing the name of the organisation. Sonia says party unfazed by election prospects

New Delhi, Oct 6 (UNI) Sounding the possibility of early elections, Congress President Sonia Gandhi today said her party was prepared to face the people. "If there is an election, we will face it," she said at an 'Iftar' party hosted by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Echoing his party chief's views, Dr Singh said "nothing is inevitable" to a question if he felt there would be snap polls. Ms Gandhi and Dr Singh, however, played down the threat from the Left.....
