Mayor's husband held, released for illegal transport of liquor

Nagpur, Oct 6 (UNI) Nagpur Mayor's husband and a car driver were arrested and later released on bail on charges of illegally carrying country liquor in a car belonging to Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC).

According to the police, Chintaman Iwnate, husband of Mayor Maya Iwnate, was arrested yesterday in connection with the seizure of several crates of country liquor on Thursday from a vehicle belonging to the civic body.

Tambe, who was driving the car, was arrested immediately after the vehicle was intercepted and the liquor was seized, the police said.

Both Iwnate and Tambe were produced before a magistrate, who granted them bail. The civic authorities have initiated disciplinary action against Tambe and ordered an enquiry to find out whom the car was officially allotted to.

By-elections from ten wards in Nagpur city are slated to be held tomorrow, and the campaigning had come to an end last evening.

Mizoram to renew 'rats' tails-for-money' campaign

Aizawl, Oct 6 (UNI) The Mizoram government has decided to renew the 'rats' tail-for-money', to combat multiplication of rats due to gregarious bamboo flowering or Mautam. ECoR to run special trains to clear Puja rush

Bhubaneswar, Oct 6 (UNI) East Coast Railway has decided to run special trains towards Hatia and Puducherry to avoid rush during the Puja Season and also for the convenience of passengers. Coal India to double exploration capacity in a year

New Delhi, Oct 6 (UNI) Coal India Ltd (CIL) will double its exploration capacity in a year's time from the current two lakh metres per day. ''Exploration is less beyond 300 metres depth where there is an abundance of coal. So we are going to intensify exploration and will double it in a year's time,'' company's Chairman and Managing Director Partha S Bhattacharyya told reporters on the sidelines of an energy summit.
