New Delhi, Oct 6 (UNI) A delegation of the Lutyens Trust led by Martin Lutyen today visited the historical Old Secretariat building in the capital and commended the Assembly's efforts in keeping its original structure and glory intact.

The delegation which is presently on a visit to Delhi, met Speaker Ch Prem Singh and praised the restoration work that was undertaken by the Assembly Secretariat.

Mr Singh also presented a brief description of the original design and shape of the Old Secretariat to the delegates. He said the original length of the corridor was 2.7 km that had been encroached upon by constructing rooms in the past decades. However, the Assembly Secretariat has successfully restored the original structure as it was in 1912 when there was transfer of capital from Calcutta to Delhi.

He said the structure of building designed by E Montague Thomas was inspired from the shape of half moon and now efforts are being made for the restoration of that moonlike shape and beauty.

He said the philosophy of architects like Lutyens and E Montague was still important as open, airy, sun-facing buildings and houses with roofs would continue to be good for good environmentally great cities.
