Kidwai seeks bankers' role in agriculture sector

Panipat, Oct 6 (UNI) Haryana Governor A R Kidwai today called on bankers to play a pivotal role in making agriculture a profitable profession in the country.

Speaking at the valedictory function of a two-day 'Workshop on Organic Agriculture' organised by the Reserve Bank of India here, the Governor said that banks played a vital role in making India a lead country in industrialisation and Software production.

He said after globalisation the GDP of India has touched 9.5 per cent mark and if the country maintained it at this level than India would become a developed country in 2020 and one of three economic powers of the World by 2040.

He regretted that the contribution of agriculture sector in Indian economy which was 4 per cent earlier had gone down to 2 per cent which was a matter of great concern.

''If this is enhanced to 4 to 5 per cent annually, only then we can maintain balanced growth of our economy,'' he said.
