J&K government orders inquiry into bungling in IAY

Srinagar, Oct 6 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir Government has ordered an inquiry into alleged misappropriation of India Awas Yogna (IAY) funds in the border town of Gurez.

An official spokesman said today that Minister for Roads and Buildings Gulchain Singh Charak has directed the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Bandipora to constitute a committee under the charge of Additional Deputy Commissioner to conduct the inquiry.

He said the matter came to light after local people alleged that the officials had misappropriated IAY funds in Gurez.

The minister directed that the inquiry should be completed within a week so that stern action could be taken against those involved.

During his inspection of the 10-bed Sub Health Centre in Boodgam Tulail, the Minister found two contractual doctors absent from duty for the last one month.

Mr Charak issued instructions to the concerned authorities on the spot to take action against the truant doctors and directed the Director Health Services, Kashmir to post two doctors immediately at the Health Centre.

Two soldiers and four ultras killed in Kashmir

Srinagar, Oct 6: Two soldiers and four militants-- three Pakistani infiltrators and one Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) commander-- were killed in the Kashmir valley overnight, official sources said. Militants attacked a security force search party at Zainpora in south Kashmir district of Shopian, they said. Troops also retaliated and in the night-long fierce encounter one soldier and a LeT commander Abu Furkan were killed and two jawans wounded. Heavy rains: All flights from Vizag cancelled

Visakhapatnam, Oct 6: All flights from Visakhapatnam airport were cancelled due to heavy rains, airport officials said today. Officials said the runways were inundated due to overnight rains and efforts were on to clear the water. The airline s, which cancelled the services, were Air Sahara, Air Deccan, Kingfisher, Paramount and Indian. The services would remain cancelled tomorrow, if the rain continued, the officials added. Kohima, Oct 6 (UNI) Another senior legislator of the ruling Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) has withdrawn his support from the party reducing the coalition to 36 in the 60-member House.
