Hindus in Bangladesh ask for sufficient security during Durga Puja

Dhaka, Oct 6 (UNI) Hindus in Bangladesh have demanded adequate security cover from the caretaker government for the upcoming five-day Durga Puja festival.

Leaders of Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad called upon the authorities concerned to provide uninterrupted water and electricity supplies to every puja mandap during the festival starting October 17, Daily Star reported.

They also demanded that the government should release parishad's Vice-President Nimchandra Bhoumik, who was recently arrested for his alleged involvement in student unrest at Dhaka University.

This year, around 20,000 puja mandaps have been set up throughout the country, including around 153 in the capital.

The main puja mandap in the capital will be at Dhakeshwari National Temple. Mandaps have also been set up at other places including Jagannath Hall, Ramkrishna Mission, Ramna Kali Mandir, Siddheswari Kali Mandir, Bangla Bazar and Farm Gate areas.

IB tip-off follows arrests of suspects in AP

Hyderabad, Oct 6: City police today arrested 15 suspects, including five Bangladeshi nationals overstaying in the city, following intelligence alert that 'human bombs' had sneaked into the city to engage in subversive activities during the Ramzan season. Police sources said the Intelligence Bureau had alerted the Andhra Pradesh police about the possibility of terror strikes by suspected suicide bombers of Harkat-ul-Jihadi Islami (HuJI). MP: Constable suspended for extortion

Guna (MP), Oct 6: A police constable has been suspended and a home guard Sainik dismissed from service for extortion from vehicle owners on the bypass road here, police said today. The action against Constable Bhanu Pratap Gurjar and Sainik Shivraj Lodha followed inquiry into complaints against them, Superintendent of Police Yogesh Choudhary said.
