'Gulbarga Open' Tennis tournament from October 22

Gulbarga, Oct 6 (UNI) In all 22 International players from 14 countries, besides Indian tennis players can be seen in action vying for top honour in USD 15,000 'Gulbarga Open' ITF Tennis tournament being held here from October 22 to 28.

Disclosing this to newsmen here, Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Pandey, who is also Organising Committee head, said that the World Ranking Men's Tennis Tournament had been sanctioned by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and All India Tennis Association (AITA) and the Tournament was being organised under the auspices of Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association (KSLTA).

He said that 'Gulbarga Open' carries a prize money of USD 15,000.

The main draw would comprise of 18 Direct entries, eight Qualifiers and Four wild card entrants and the single draw of 32 and double draw of 16.

Mr Pandey said that the Tournament was being held in the backward Gulbarga city as part of the KSLTA's initiative to take Tennis to the masses.

He said that the Courts at the Chandrasekhar Patil Stadium were being relaid and flood lights were also being erected to enable the matches to be played in the evening.

Doordarshan Sports Channal would telecast live the semi-final and final matches, Mr Pandey added.

Decision on Virk's bail plea deferred till Oct 8

Rupnagar, Oct 6 (UNI) A Sessions Judge here today put off his decision till October 8 on the bail plea filed by former Punjab DGP S S Virk, arrested by the Vigilance Bureau in a disproportionate assets case and for keeping 'Cats.' Virk had filed the bail application on September 29 while co-accused Vijay Pal Singh Dimpi had filed the bail application a few days earlier. The judge Rekha Mittal had reserved her orders on the bail application for today.....

Old age pension for BPL families above 65 age: Sahu

Rourkela, Oct 6 (UNI) BPL families above the age group of 65 years would be provided with old age pension from November, Union Rural Development Minister Chandra Sekhar Sahu said here today. Addressing the partymen at Congress Bhawan here, Mr Sahu said one of each BPL family member would also be included in the Health Insurance scheme of the Centre. The Union Minister said the UPA government was committed to the development of both urban as well as rural areas,.....

Wildlife Week to conclude tomorrow

Bhopal, Oct 6 (UNI) The Wildlife Week, which was observed across Madhya Pradesh, would conclude here tomorrow, official sources said. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan would distribute prizes at a function to be held at Van Vihar National Sanctuary here on the occasion. The concluding function would start at 1200 hours. Finance Minister Raghavji would preside over the function. Forests and Tribal Welfare Minister Vijay Shah, Minister of State for Forests Narayan Singh Kushwaha, Bhopal Mayor Sunil Sood and MLA Umashankar.....
