Governor inaugurates national summit

Lucknow, Oct 6 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Governor T V Rajeswar today inaugurated the national summit on 'India at 60: Challenges for inclusive Socio-Economic Development' organised by Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management and Technology, Bareilly.

Speaking on the ocassion, he said ''both India's progress and its booming economy were missing in rural areas. Some regions are still in the grip of illiteracy, improper roads and poor communication and lack of health facilities,'' he noted.

However, there had been rapid economic growth in the past five years. The largest growth was in the field of informtaion technology and communication, he added.

Mr Rajeswar pointed the growing urbanisation and rapid growth in the field of private educational institutions, which are indicatives of present economic tempo. But, the growth rate of food production is only 40 per cent.

The Union government has introduced several schemes to increase production and provide assured returns to the farmers, he said.

The function was attended by Anil Shastri, chairman , Board of governors of the institute besides other dignitaries of the institute.

Bhosle, rare politician to become CM in first term

Mumbai, Oct 6 (UNI) Babasaheb Anantrao Bhosle had the distinction in the political history of Maharashtra to become the Chief Minister in his first term, and never getting elected to a political office or post. Bhosle, a Barrister, was elected to State Legislative Assembly in 1980 from Kurla constituency of Mumbai. He was immediately inducted into the Cabinet of A R Antulay as the Law minister. Nothing is inevitable, says PM on mid-term poll

New Delhi, Oct 6 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today did not rule out the possibility of early elections to the Lok Sabha even as he stressed that it was for all concerned to make the coalition politics work.
