Forest Department workers protest kidnapping of 2 colleagues

Badaun, Oct 6 (UNI) Forest Department workers today staged a massive protest in Bareilly and Moradabad divisions, following the abduction of their two colleagues here.

Veer Pal Singh and Jamuna Prasad were kidnapped on September 29 by some unidentified miscreants. Later, Rs 10 lakh were demanded as ransom.

The workers stormed the Forest Deparment Offices and demanded the release of the kidnapped.

They also warned to boycott work on October 9, if the colleagues were not rescued by then.

Train services disrupted by demostrators demanding medical college

Balasore, Oct 6 (UNI) Life in this north Orissa town was paralysed today, due to a dawn-to-dusk bandh called for the establishment of a government medical college and hospital. A Joint Action Committee had been formed for today's agitation with support extended by all political parties, trade unions, women and student bodies and youth organisations of the district. Sources said except train services, which resumed after an hour- long demonstration at the station, all other services came to a grinding halt......

Government announces further relief measures for exporters

New Delhi, Oct 6 (UNI) The Government today announced further relief measures for exporters hit by a rising rupee currency and added more sectors eligible for lower bank lending rates. A finance ministry statement said the government had extended the list for the exemption of service tax for general insurance services, technical testing and analysis agency and inspection and certification agency services for exporters. Exporters will now be exempted from paying service tax for these services. The rupee hit 39.36 per.....

Jaya disagrees with Karunanidhi's explanation on bandh

Chennai, Oct 6: AIADMK Supremo J Jayalalithaa today disagreed with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's explanation on the October 1 bandh, which was banned by the Supreme court. In a statement here, she said Mr Karunanidhi had failed in his duty as Chief Minister by not coming clean on the issue.
