Five die,1400 suffering from diarrhoea in Bokaro

Bokaro, Oct 6 (UNI) At least five persons have died while 1408 were seriously ill after suffering from diarrhoea in Jharkhand's Bokaro district this year.

District Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Mithilesh Kumar said so far five persons died after consuming contaminated water and food.

Bermo, Chandakiyari, Petarwar, and Nawadih were the most affected areas despite the arrangements made by the district administration to prevent the disease, he said.

Dr Kumar further added that special camps were being organised in those areas for the treatment and to make people aware about hygiene.

Aged couple murdered, mob block highway

Allahabad, Oct 6 (UNI) Masked men bludgeoned to death an elderly couple in the Soraun area here. The murderers barged into the house of one Pavan Kumar at village Malak Harihar last night to commit robbery. On being opposed, the miscreants hit hard on Kumar and his wife's head with an iron rod. Assault of lawyer: Law students held for road blockade

Madurai, Oct 6 (UNI) Police arrested 14 students of the Government Law College, Madurai, for staging a road blockade near the District Court complex, demanding criminal proceedings against a former Panchayat President for assaulting a lawyer, even as a student threatened to commit suicide over the issue. The students demanded that the police register 'attempt to murder' case against Killivalavan, a former president of Samayanallur Panchayat in the district, for allegedly assaulting Suresh Kumar (25), an advocate. Tension in Badaun after idols' desecration

Badaun, Oct 6 (UNI) Tension gripped the Faizganj Baheta area of this district of Uttar Pradesh after some unidentified anti-social elements desecrated idols at three different temples last night. Police Superintendent R D Pathak today said, '' As many as 10 idols of the temples in Dhaniyavala village were desecrated by the anti-social elements late last night.''
