DYFI to take out bicycle expedition on Sethusamundram

Madurai, Oct 6 (UNI) In a novel way to press for the early implementation of the Sethusamudram Project, members of the Tamil Nadu Unit of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) will take out bicycle rallies from four southern districts to Rameswaram, tomorrow.

Talking to newspersons here today, DYFI State Secretary S Kannan said the organisation had conducted several movements for the early implementation of the project. The project would give a fillip to employment generation in the southern districts of the state, he said.

He said the previous BJP Government at the Centre had chosen the present alignment. Now they were arousing the religious sentiments, he alleged.

The cycle rallies would be taken out from Madurai, Virudhunagar, Sivaganga and Tuticorin and converge at Rameswaram on October ten, he said.

Communist Party of India (Marxist) State Secretary N Varadarajan, DYFI National President Sriramakrishnan and leaders of Democratic Progressive Alliance (DPA) would participate in a public meeting to be held at Rameswaram on October 10, he said.

The bicycle expedition would create awareness among the public about the need for implementing the project, he added.
