Double poles for Saran Vikram and Ashwin Sundar

Chennai, Oct 6 (UNI) Amidst humid conditions and the championship tantalizingly poised in the premium Formula Rolon category all eyes were on the top three racers - Chennai lads Aditya Patel and Saran Vikram from team NK Racing, and Pune racer Rayomand Banajee from Team Prime Racing in the sixth round of the JK Tyre national racing championship here today.

Saran Vikram achieved the fastest laps of 01:47:973 and 01:48:342 to take pole positions for Race 1 and Race 2 respectively in the Formula Rolon category.. Aditya Patel took the 2nd slot while Rayomand Banajee will start from third place in Race 1. Race 2 will see Aditya Patel start in 2nd place and Sarosh Hataria of Team Prime Racing in 3rd place.

It was yet another glorious show from the champion and little master Ashwin Sundar of Team Rams Racing. Ashwin captured double pole positions in the Formula Hyundai category with the fastest lap timings of 01:57:412 and 01:58:147 for Race 1 and Race 2 respectively. Starting in 2nd and 3rd places in Race 1 in this class will be Rayomand Banajee from Team Gemini Racing and B. Vijay Kumar from Prime Racing respectively. Race 2 will see Narain Shankar of Rams Racing starting in 2nd place and Rayomand Banajee in 3rd.

In Formula Swift category it was the turn of Bangalore lad Sudarshan Rao of Rams Racing to steal the thunder by recording the fastest lap - 01:55:919 - to take pole in Race 1. Ashwin Sundar and Saran Vikram of Team WSRF with Leela will start from 2nd and 3rd places, respectively.

Race 2 will see the same racers, but in a different order.

Starting on pole will be Ashwin Sunder who timed the fastest lap of 01:56:472. Saran Vikram and Sudarshan Rao will start 2nd and 3rd in this race.

The main races will be held tomorrow.

Congo rescue called off after air crash kills 50

KINSHASA, Oct 6 (Reuters) Rescue workers in Congo called off a search for survivors today two days after a Russian-made cargo plane plunged into a suburb of the capital Kinshasa, killing at least 50 people. Government officials said a number of people were still missing after the Antonov 26 twin-propeller aircraft belonging to Congolese airline Africa One crashed into houses in the Kingasani neighbourhood shortly after take-off on Thursday. Putin throws birthday party in Kremlin tomorrow

DUSHANBE, Oct 6 (Reuters) Russian President Vladimir Putin, who is due to step down next year, said he would throw a farewell birthday party at the Kremlin tomorrow when he turns 55. ''I normally do not organise festivities to mark the event,'' Putin told reporters during a visit to Tajikistan today. UK's Brown to rule out early election - BBC

LONDON, Oct 6 (Reuters) British Prime Minister Gordon Brown is expected to rule out calling an early election this year, the BBC reported today. Brown, who took over from Tony Blair earlier this year, had toyed with the idea of holding an early election in recent weeks.
