Court asks J'kand govt to seek report over Karunanidhi issue

Ranchi, Oct 6 (UNI) Jharkhand High Court today granted one week time to the state government to seek information from the concerned officials why the First Information Report (FIR) against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi was not registered for making derogatory comments against Lord Rama.

Justice Amreshwar Sahay passed the order while hearing a writ petition, filed by Ram Subhak Singh, an advocate of Jharkhand High Court.

Earlier, Mr Singh had given an application to the Doranda police station here to lodge an FIR against Mr Karunanidhi for terming Lord Ram as ''drunkard'', but it was not lodged.

Mr Singh also approached the Senior Superintendent of Police, but no action was taken in this regard.

Thereafter, Mr Singh filed a writ petition in Jharkhand High Court.

In his petition, Mr Singh alleged that Doranda police station did not execute the FIR lodged by him.

Mr Karunanidhi's statement had hurt the sentiments of the people an the act was punishable under section 295 A of IPC, Mr Singh said adding the Chief Minister should be arrested and brought to Jharkhand for further legal proceedings.
