Court annuls Patparganj councillor election

New Delhi, Oct 6 (UNI) A city court today declared the election of Patparganj Councillor Bina Sharma held on April 5 this year null and void.

Anita, who stood second in the election, approached the court and filed a petition for declaration of the election of Bina Sharma as null and void. She alleged that Ms Sharma resides in Mayur Vihar and the nomination paper was based on false information and supported by false documents.

She also alleged that her name was not in the electoral roll of the ward number concerned 212.

As per the DMC election of councillor rules, she was required to be a resident of the ward for which she was contesting elections.

The court ruled that Ms Sharma was not qualified to be chosen as councillor as her name was not registered as an elector in the electoral roll of a ward as required under section 8 of the DMC Act.
