Cooked Food scheme launched for nutrition-deprived in UT

Chandigarh, Oct 6 (UNI) The Punjab Governor and Administrator, UT Chandigarh, Gen (Retd) S F Rodrigues today launched a Cooked Food scheme for improving the nutritional and health status of vulnerable groups in the Union Territory.

The unique programme under the integrated Child Development Services scheme (ICDS), will provide a package of services including Non formal pre-school education, immunization, health check up, referral services, nutritional and health education and supplement nutrition programme.

It will benefit population of 3.70 lakhs in villages, colonies and slums, including pre-school children, pregnant women, nursing mothers and adolescent girls, through 370 Aaganwari Centers, in three ICDS projects in the Union Territory.

General Rodrigues, accompanied by Mrs Jean Rodrigues inspected the food arrangements and menu and served food to the beneficiaries.

He asked the Director Social Welfare to monitor this programme and ensure its proper implementation and coverage.

He also asked the officers of Social Welfare Department to integrate it with the programmes of Child Abuse and reduction in mortality rate, already launched by the Chandigarh Administration.

He emphasized that the Administration has already undertaken the work of remodeling Bapu Dham Colony, which will be replicated in the other 17 settlements in the Union Territory. He also called upon the residents to come forward to make this programme a success.

Dr. Manjit Singh Bains, Director Health Services informed that a team of 10 doctors with paramedical staff will conduct annual medical examination of 0-6 age group children of 370 Aaganwaris.

Lawyers hold rallies in Lahore and Balochistan against election

Islamabad, Oct 6 (UNI) Pakistan lawyers held protest rallies in Lahore and Balochistan, against the presidential election. Leading the rally in Balochistan were High Court Bar Association's president Hadi Shakil, advocates Raja Rabnawaz, Sabir Jamil and other senior lawyers. HC rejects AJSU candidates writ petition

Ranchi, Oct 6 (UNI) The Jharkhand High Court today dismissed the writ petition of All Jharkhand Student Union (AJSU) candidate contesting in the Ranchi University students union election.
