CIAL to increase non-aeronautical revenue

Kochi, Oct 6 (UNI) The Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL), India's first successful government-private joint venture in the aviation sector, has drawn up an ambitious scheme to increase its non-aeronautical revenue.

Speaking to reporters at the airport yesterday, CIAL MD Sriram Bharat said the company was conducting feasibility study of successfully marketing the available space at the airport complex.

The study report, expected within an year, aimed at increasing the non-aeronautical revenue, which would bring down the airport's existing usage charges including landing fee levied on airlines, he said.

Mr Bharat said major players in the business sector had come forward to put up hoardings, kiosks and stalls at the airport complex.

Explaining that the duty free shop at the airport had been contributing a susbstantial revenue to the CIAL, he said its turnover netted an increase of 43 per cent, as compared to the previous year.

He claimed that Kochi Airport's duty free shop had topped sales among similar shops in the country, with the Delhi duty free coming second, followed by Mumbai.

The two-month long promotional 'Ee Onam Nalla Onam' contest brought by the multi-national drinks major DIAGEO in association with CIAL, Samsung India and Alpha Kreol had generated a record revenue of 1.63 million dollars from Indian international passengers, with a record sale of 64 thousand dollars on August 24.
