Chandigarh Heritage Festival to be celebrated tomorrow

Chandigarh, Oct 6 (UNI) The City Beautiful is all set to showcase the amalgamation of modernity and tradition as it celebrates Chandigarh Heritage Festival tomorrow on the anniversary of inauguration of Chandigarh by the first President Dr Rajendra Prasad.

At the dawn the Sukhna Lake will echo with the Morning Raga, to be followed by a Heritage walk, traversing the masterpiece city of French architect Le Corbusier, that would start from the open Hand Monument and terminate at Bougainvalea Bougainvillea Garden.

In the evening, the celebration will continue with the seminar on 'Chandigarh and the Changing Scenario of contemporary Indian Architecture'' at Chandigarh College of Architecture.

At open hand Monument, Sufiana performance by noted Punjabi Singer Hans Raj Hans would regail the audience as the evening sets in.

Chandigarh deserved to be recognised for its contribution to global architecture and town planning and is on the list of possible sites for world heritage status as a proposal has been submitted to UNESCO by the Centre in this regard, an official release said.

Ration dealer commits suicide in Bankura

Bankura, Oct 6 (UNI) With the growing public outrage against ration shop owners, Bimal Kundu, a ration dealer of Barakumira village in Gangajal ghanty of the district, allegedly committed suicide today. Bankura District Magistrate Surendra Gupta said though there was no specific complaint against the dealer, yet he was mentally depressed when a few villagers raised some questions about his 'behaviour'. Decision on Virk's bail plea deferred till Oct 8

Rupnagar, Oct 6 (UNI) A Sessions Judge here today put off his decision till October 8 on the bail plea filed by former Punjab DGP S S Virk, arrested by the Vigilance Bureau in a disproportionate assets case and for keeping 'Cats.' Virk had filed the bail application on September 29 while co-accused Vijay Pal Singh Dimpi had filed the bail application a few days earlier. The judge Rekha Mittal had reserved her orders on the bail application for today.....
