Arunachal a perfect destination for investment: Khandu

Itanagar, Oct 6 (UNI) Highlighting Arunachal Pradesh's potential at the 'North-East India Investment Opportunities Week' in Bangkok, Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu said his state was one of the perfect destinations for investing in agro-processing industries, tourism, hydro-power and allied industries.

Speaking at the summit in Bangkok organised by the DoNER Ministry on October 4, Mr Khandu said, ''My state looks very tiny but is the ideal destination for investment. It is one of the most peaceful states in the country having a very conducive atmosphere for investment.'' Elaborating the state's industrial policy, he thanked DoNER Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar for giving investment opportunities not only to the state but the entire NE, the official sources said here today.

The 360-member delegation, led by the DoNER Minister, comprised important dignitaries and ministers from the NE.

At the programme the Thailand Commerce Minister Kroekrai Chiraphaet appreciated the cultural links of Thailand with the NE saying that the business collaboration could lead to development in many areas, including road construction, tourism, food processing, agriculture and hydro-power production.

Mr Chiraphaet said the Thai investors had been encouraged to seek investment opportunities in the NE as the region had high potential for development and was the 'gateway' to the 1.3 billion strong Indian markets.

A special 'India Desk' was set up in the Thailand Industry Ministry as well as an 'India Hub' in the Commerce Ministry to streamline and help the investors.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Aiyar strongly advocated for investment in the state saying that his ministry would be ready to help in all possible ways.

Union Minister of State for Industry Ashwini Kumar addressed the Centre's North East India Investment Promotion Policy of the Centre in his statement.

The four-day programme was marked by several activities including sectoral discussions on agro-food processing, infrastructure, tourism and others.

The summit also showcased one-to-one interaction between the prospective investors and state governments.

An exhibition showcasing the NE culture continued for three days and the Arunachal pavillion drew tremendous responses, the sources said.

Besides, many cultural programmes by the Thai counterparts were held as well as a fashion show in which costumes of Arunachal Pradesh were also presented.

Army provides six computers to school in north Kashmir

Srinagar, Oct 6 (UNI) Under the operation ''Sadbhavana'', troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR) handed over six computers to a school in north Kashmir district of Baramulla. A defence ministry spokesman said the 52 RR (JAK RIF) under the aegis of Headquarter 10 Sector Rashtriya Rifles provided six computers along with a power generator to a government High School Odur, Baramulla under OP Sadbhavana He said the main aim of providing the computer to the rural village schools was to help students.....

Suicide attack targets US convoy in Kabul

KABUL, Oct 6 (Reuters) A bomb killed two Afghan civilians and one US soldier in an attack on a US convoy in Kabul today, a US military spokesman said. ''It was a two-vehicle, armoured SUV convoy to the airport,'' said the spokesman Lieutenant-Commander Clint Larson. ''On the way to the airport we believe a Toyota minivan struck one of the SUVs. One US soldier was injured in the attack. He has since died of his wounds.'' He said it was not.....
