Army and AR tightens security in Indo-Myanmar border

Imphal, Oct 6 (UNI) The Army and Assam Rifles(AR) personnel posted at the Manipur-Myanmar border areas have intensified their activities in view of the prevailing situation in Myanmar.

AR PRO Col Pant here today said three Corps General Officer Commanding (GOC), Lt Gen M S Dadwal along with IG AR (S) Major Gen B K Chengapa and senior Army officials visited Moreh, the border town, at Chandel district and reviewed the internal security scenario and developments from the ongoing military crackdown against pro-democracy protestors in Myanmar.

Col Pant said the GOC also toured several units at the border areas yesterday.

The top brass of the Indian Army also discussed the situation in Myanmar.

Lt General Dadwal and other senior army personnel, posted in the North Eastern States, had been camping here since the past two days to discuss the impact of the situation of Myanmar in the NE.

''India and Myanmar share about 1,600 km long international border which is highly porous,'' the PRO said.

The military commanders reviewed the existing security scenario prevailing in the states of Nagaland, Manipur, Tripura and Mizoram.

Assessment of the internal situation and latest developments in neighboring countries and its impacts on India is also considered, the PRO said.

All issues related to operational aspects and security were discussed in great detail and new strategies were pondered over to ensure complete success of all operations against the militants.

Asian business, rise in UK but discrimination still exists

London, Oct 6 (UNI) Asian businesses are growing three times faster than their native counterparts in the UK, a government study suggests. It also says that one in five new Asian enterprises are being set up by women. Rajasthan: 1 held in MLA quarter's murder

Jaipur, Oct 6: Police today arrested a youth in connection with the murder of a teenage girl in the Jyothi Nagar area. Additional SP (south) Rajesh Singh said Jamal Khan, a resident of Bhogpura slum custer, was arrested in this connection. The body of an 18-year-old girl, Rekha, was found in a pool of blood with her head smashed in the garage of the quarter of BJP MLA Ramrattan Berva, who represents the Shahpura consituency in Bhilwara district.
