JD(S) workers urge Kumaraswamy to continue as CM

Udupi, Sep 13: Despite Janata Dal(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda and his son H D Kumaraswamy clearing the air on the transfer of Chief Minister's post to BJP on October 3, JD(S) workers seem unrelenting in their demand for continuation of Mr Kumaraswamy as Chief Minister.

JD(S) State General Secretary P Nandakumar today said staunch workers of the party were planning a 'love revolt' to pressure the party leaders to let Mr Kumaraswamy continue in the coveted post.

Speaking to newspersons after releasing the first list of 34 candidates of his party contesting Udupi City Municipal Council and the party manifesto, he said the rank and file in the party, including the legislators, had decided to raise the 'love revolt'.

Many of the BJP legislators were in support of this demand, he claimed.

Mr Nandakumar said, ''The campaign raised by Ministers Iqbal Ansari and D T Jayakumar on the issue of continuation of Mr Kumaraswamy as Chief Minister has not died down. With the support from several 'BJP friends' we are secretly working to make our plan a success.'' Under the pre-government formation understanding, JD(S) and BJP had agreed to share the Chief Minister's post for 20 months each before the next election was due. Accordingly, Mr Kumaraswamy became the Chief Minister first and now his term ends on October 2.
