EEPC resents hike in ocean freight rates

Kolkata, Sep 13 (UNI) Engineering Export Council Chairman Rakesh Shah today condemned the sharp escalation in ocean freight rates, demanded by the foreign shiping lines in the last couple of months for carrying India's engineering cargo to the European Union countries and Gulf states from Kolkata port.

In a statement, Mr Shah said the freight rates had increased by 60 to 150 per cent between April and September this year for export orginating from the port, which was quite in contrast to the relatively stable rates available in Mumbai port.

The statement said as a result of the sudden upsurge in freight rates, those who had shipped engineering products to the Middle east and European destinations through Kolkata port suffered seriously.

It said unlike other exports, in case of engineering exports, freight charges constitute nearly 30 per cent of the value of a single export consignment.

Badal to meet PM tomorrow for increasing paddy MSP

Flagging infrastructure growth worries industry chamber

New Delhi, Sep 13 (UNI) Industry chambers today were unanimous in voicing their concerns on the slackening growth of infrastructure sectors in July and its impact on the overall growth of the economy. Industry chamber Ficci said the slow growth of six infrastructure sectors in July this year will decelerate the overall growth of the economy. It said that the infrastructure bottlenecks have been an impediment on the operations of the Indian industry and the further slowdown of the infrastructure.....

Local court grants bail to BJP MLA in kidnapping case

Anand, Gujarat, Sept 13 (UNI) A local court today granted bail to BJP MLA Dilip Manibhai Patel in connection with a kidnapping and assault case. Chief Judicial Magistrate R M Desai ordered release of Mr Patel, arrested for his alleged involvement in the kidnapping and assault case of 2003, on a personal bond of Rs 25,000. Mr Patel was charged with kidnapping a builder, Mithilesh Amin, and local Congress leader, Ulash Patel, and later physically assaulting them at the nearby Vallabh.....
