Home Ministry issues tsunami warning

New Delhi, Sep 12: The Union Home Ministry today issued a tsunami warning for Andaman and Nicobar Islands and coastal states following a 8.1 magnitude earthquake near Sumatra island of Indonesia.

Home Ministry officials said the tsunami alert has been issued for coastal states of Orissa, Tamil Nadu, Karanataka in view of the high magnitude earthquate near Sumata. The alert includes coastal cities of Mumbai, Chennai, Baleshwar and Mangalore and Gulf of Kutch.

The state governments and other agencies have been asked to remain alert as the quake may trigger a tsunami.

The temblor was epicentred between 04.4 degrees South and 102 degrees East.

Malaysian authorities have also issued a tsunami alert.

Hyderabad, Oct 9: After the UID project officially took off on Sep 29 in a Maharashtra village, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has now set its eyes on Orissa, Chhattisgarh and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.An UIDAI official has informed that the UIDAI is gearing up to enroll people in Orissa, Chhattisgarh and Andaman and Nicobar Islands in the next few weeks.While the enrollment will begin in Orissa and Chhattisgarh in Oct 2010, Andaman and Nicobar Islands.....

Heavy rains batter Andhra, 16 killed

Hyderabad, Nov 2: A trough of low pressure in Bay of Bengal and vigorous northeast monsoon brought down heavy rains on Andhra Pradesh, where at least 16 people were killed in rain-related incidents.
