LS adjourned till 1400 hrs, NDA demands JPC on nuclear deal

New Delhi, Sep 6 (UNI) The Lok Sabha was adjourned today for the second time till 1400 hrs with a determined Opposition demanding the constitution of a Joint Parliamentary Committee to go into the implications of the 123 Agreement.

As soon as the House assembled at 1200 hrs after the first adjournment, Opposition members were on their feet, demanding a JPC on the Indo-US nuclear deal.

Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee, however, commenced the business of the House, but the demand from the BJP-led Opposition became shrill. The members, after nearly seven minutes of the proceedings, went to the well of the House shouting slogans.

The slogans included ''we want JPC'' and ''Tanashai Nahin chalegi'' (down with dictatorship).

The Speaker continued with the proceedings, but described the behaviour of the Opposition as ''unfortunate''.

The business related to laying of papers on the table against whom they were listed.

Amid the din, with shouts from the Opposition and counter shouts from the Treasury benches, two bills were taken up and passed after clause by clause consideration.

After nearly half-an-hour of uproar, Mr Chatterjee adjourned the House till 1400 hrs.

Earlier, the Lok Sabha was adjourned till 1200 hrs with the Opposition stalling the Question Hour.
