Welfare Board for Handicapped people: Minister

Puducherry, Sep 3 (UNI) A Welfare Board would soon be set up for the benefit of Handicapped people in the Union Territory, Welfare Minister M Kandasamy said here today.

Distributing benefits of various welfare schemes to the physically challenged and visually challenged people and also to various artists belonging to poor families at a function here, he said three per cent reservation quota in employment for the physically challenged would be implemented in all government departments, professional colleges and private industries and establishments here.

Mr Kandasamy said he would launch a drive against people claiming welfare benefit schemes here with bogus certificates. Those who were not physically challenged were reportedly using such bogus certificates and action would be initiated against wrong-doers and officials responsible for the offences, he added.

The Minister said the department would purchase polyster sarees and shirts from open market to distribute it under the free garment scheme, disconnecting procurement from Pontex.

Assam Police release photos of Guwahati blast suspects

Guwahati, Sept 3 (UNI) Assam police today released the photographs of two prime suspects, believed to be ULFA cadres, in the September one blast in the city. A powerful blast had rocked the Bamunimaidam area of the city just before noon on Saturday, leaving one person dead and more than 12 wounded. IOC expects Rs 24,000-30,000 cr oil bonds for the industry

New Delhi, Sept 3 (UNI) Indian Oil Corporation Chairman Sarthak Behuria told reporters today that he expects Rs 24,000-Rs 30,000 crore in oil bonds for the entire industry to bear some of the losses the state-run oil companies have had to suffer on account of higher oil prices in global markets. Uttarakhand to make separate Ganga Action Plan

New Delhi, Sep 3 (UNI) The BJP government in Uttarakhand will make its own action plan for cleaning of Ganga and Yamuna, Chief Minister BC Khanduri said here today. ''We had put it in our manifesto that we will purge the rivers of all filth within five years, and now we will fulfill the promise,'' he told reporters here. He said he was fully confident of giving a clean Ganga at the point where it enters the plains once separate action.....
