Vizhinjam global tender receives 21 bidders

Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 3 (UNI) Kerala Ports Minister M Vijayakumar today said as many as 21 tenders have been received from international companies for the proposed deep-sea container terminal at Vizhinjam, near here, for which the state government had floated a global tender.

Speaking at the inaugural function of dredging of the Vizhinjam harbour as part of the terminal's development works, the minister said six harbours among the 17 in the state would be developed in the first phase. ''The state's development lays in the development of ports,'' he noted.

There was good response for the global tender and the evaluation of the bid would be completed by this month.

Earlier, Mr Vijayakumar had said after security clearance in October, licence would be given to successful bidder in November and the construction would start in December 2008.

Guwahati-New Delhi weekly special train extended till Oct 29

New Delhi, Sep 3 (UNI) Till the Guwahati-New Delhi weekly special train has been extended October 29, a Northern Railway statement said today. The 207 Guwahati-New Delhi special train, will depart from Guwahati at 0600hrs to arrive at New Delhi at 1325 hrs the next day. It will ply on September, 9, 16, 23, 30, and October 7, 14, 21 and 28. In the return direction, the 208 New Delhi-Guwahati special train will depart from New Delhi at 1155 hrs on.....

Moderate showers cool Delhi, mercury down to 34.8 deg C

New Delhi, Sep 3 (UNI) Delhi's tryst with pleasant weather continued today with light to moderate showers lashing the Capital city this afternoon, bringing the mercury down to 34.8 degree Celsius. The showers, which hit Delhi at around 1300 hours, helped maintain the relief for Delhiites from heat and humidity of last week. Although only 2.4 mm of rainfall was recorded till 1730 hours, the showers, together with cool Easterly winds, brought the maximum temperature down to 34.8 Degree Celsius, from.....

Indian interest limited to ensure knee deep water in Wullar : Soz

New Delhi, Sept 3 (UNI) Union Water Resources Minister Saifuddin Soz today said he had made it amply clear to the visiting Pakistan delegation that India's interest in the Wullar project was only ensure that the the canal would have enough water to facilitate- navigation of boats and expressed hope that the two countries would solve the problem 'amicably'. Prof Soz, told mediapersons, that all that India required was four and half feet of water in the canal system to facilitate.....
