UPA has failed to curb terrorism, naxalism: Chinmayanand

Jaunpur, Sep 3 (UNI) Expressing concern over the mushrooming threat to country's internal security, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Union Minister of State for Home Swami Chinmayanand today said the ruling UPA at the Centre has considerably failed to uproot terrorism and naxalism.

''It needs strong will power to tackle with severe problems like terrorism and naxalism...sadly, the Congress-led UPA lacks it,'' Mr Chinmayanand noted addressing a news conference here.

''Presently, India is plagued by the terror of maoism, naxalism and Muslim Jehad, which has posed a threat to the country's internal security,'' the BJP leader maintained.

Stressing on the need for anti-terrorism law, the ex-union minister underlined that with view of the recent terror acts, the Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA) is need of the hour.

Reproaching the ruling Mayawati regime in Uttar Pradesh, he alleged ''BSP got a rip-roaring success in the recently concluded state assembly poll due to its law and order improvement agenda.

But, all of Mayawati's vows were hollow.'' ''Initially, it appeared UP Chief Minister had no tolerance for crime. But the recent communal violence in peace loving cities Allahabad and Agra proves that her promise of a 'Bhay Mukt Samaj' were fake,'' he further alleged.
