UP bypoll: BSP wrests Suar Tanda assembly seat from SP

Lucknow, Sep 3 (UNI) The ruling Bahujan Samaj Party has wrested the Suar Tanda assembly seat in Rampur district from the Samajwadi Party in the bypoll held on August 31.

BSP candidate Kazim Ali defeated his nearest BJP rival Shiv Bahadur Saxena by over 49,000 votes. The SP candidate managed the third spot.

In the last assembly elections, Mr Ali who was the Samajwadi Party candidate, had won the seat by over 14,000 votes.

The bypoll was necessitated following Mr Ali's resignation from the party. He later joined the BSP.

With this win the BSP's strength in the assembly rose to 210 in the 403-member house.

Tripura jawans suspended in rifle missing case

Agartala, Sept 3: Tripura government has suspended four State Rifles jawans of 9th battalion today, and arrested two in connection with the missing of an AK-47 Rifles on Saturday from remote Takmacherra TSR post in South Tripura. Police said a miscreant had stolen an AK 47 Rifle, one magazine and 30 rounds of live ammunition at night when Naik Ram Prasad Nokerer, the user of the rifle, was sleeping. Nokerer found it missing in the morning, police said and added that TSR.....

Centre release 41 cr for Tripura fence victim

Agartala, Sep 3: Centre has released Rs 41 crore to compensate the people displaced due to erection of fences along the border between Bangladesh and Tripura. According to official record, 73,000 bonafide Indians, huge amount of farmland, seven temples and 33 government institutions in Tripura were trapped in a no-man's land along the Bangladesh border. ''We had asked for Rs 93 crore for resettlement of the displaced families immediately, but so far we got the sanction of Rs 41 crore,'' said State.....
