Two gets life imprisonment in murder case

Sasaram, Sept 3 (UNI) A fast track court today sentenced a man and his son to life imprisonment in a murder case.

The court also slapped a fine of Rs 20,000 on both accused.

Fast track court judge Bipin Bihari Pandey found both the accused guilty of murdering Shalik Yadav, a native of Baraiya village under Nauhatta police station area in Rohtas district.

According to the charges the victim was beaten to death on July eight 1999.

Bittu arrested for breach of peace in Punjab

Ludhiana, Sep 3 (UNI) The Punjab Police today arrested expelled Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) vice president Daljit Singh Bittu and three others while they were proceeding to a nearby village to attend a religious function. According to the police, Bittu was taken into preventive custody under sections 151 and 107 of the IPC while going to Talwandi Bhai village. Bittu had recently been released in a sedition case. Bittu along with others was later remanded in judicial custody till September 7.....

Court rejects anticipatory bail of Adnan's kidnapper

Mumbai, Sep 3 (UNI) City Civil and Sessions Court Principal Judge Ashok Bhangale today rejected the anticipatory bail application of Amit Phoolchand Chaushal in the abduction and murder case of teenager Adnan Patrawala. Judge Bhangale upheld the submission of Additional Public Prosecutor R V Kini that applicant was allegedly involved in conspiracy of abduction and murder of Adnan and had supplied the tablets, which were mixed in Adnan's alcohol by the other accused persons. Autorickshaw strike deferred till September 30

Mumbai, Sep 3 (UNI) The proposed strike called by autorickshaw drivers union against installation of electronic meters and printers in the rickshaws was today deferred till September 30, after an assurance by Maharashtra Minister for Environment Dharmarao Baba Atram. The strike was scheduled for September 5 and 6 across the state. Birla Cement's production up by 7.32 per cent

Mumbai, Sep 3 (UNI) Cement major Aditya Birla Group's cement production has moved up by 7.32 per cent for the period April-August 2007 at 128.02 lakh metric tonnes as against 119.29 lakh mt in the corresponding period of the previous year. The dispatches grew by 6.88 per cent at 127.32 lakh mt for the same period as compared to 119.13 mt in the corresponding period of the last year, the company statement said here today. Rains fail to soothe weather in the city

Kolkata, Sep 3 (UNI) A few spells of rainfall today brought the much-needed relief to the people in the city but only for a few hours and later on, the day remained humid as usual. Maximum temperature was pegged at 32.6 degrees Celsius while the minimum was 26.6 degrees Celsius. The Met recorded maximum relative humidity of 92 per cent and the minimum of 70 per cent. There was rainfall measuring about 6.5 mm, said Met officials. Alipore weathermen predicted partly.....
