Three more members of an inter-state gang arrested

Karkala, Karnataka, Sep 3 (UNI) Three more members of an inter-State gang involved various crimes in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka were arrested today.

Police had arrested six members of the same gang on August 23.

According to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Labooram during the interrogation of the arrested earlier police have recovered six four wheelers, two motor bikes, and 101 sandalwood logs besides lethal weapons total worth over Rs 22 lakh. Today's arrests were based on the information provided by the six arrested earlier.

The trio arrested today were identified as Kammareddy Majid, Venkatesh Koppa and Ramesh Koppa.

Mr Labooram said that the gang which had committed crimes in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh had come to Daxina Kannada after completing the jail term in Andhra Pradesh and took shelter in a lodge at Bajagoli and was preparing a plan for big robbery.

He said that among the arrested three were also involved in murder case. Of the six arrested earlier, four persons- Ananda, Hanif, Sadique and Chandra were remanded to police custody while other two-Siddaraju and Asif were remanded to judicial custody.

During the interrogation, it was revealed that the arrested members of the gang possessed fake passport and planning to go abroad.

He said the gang involved in various crimes including murder, attempt to murder, vehicle theft, Haftha collection, sandalwood theft and lifting of car. During the arrest, a bagful of chilly powder was also seized used for crimes. The gang had come to Bajagoli in a stolen car which was met with accident at Nitte near Karkala.

The gang after leaving the car on the accident spot took another vehicle to reach Bajagoli, he said and added that the police seized the car next day.

The three arrested have been produced before the court today.

Court rejects anticipatory bail of Adnan's kidnapper

Mumbai, Sep 3 (UNI) City Civil and Sessions Court Principal Judge Ashok Bhangale today rejected the anticipatory bail application of Amit Phoolchand Chaushal in the abduction and murder case of teenager Adnan Patrawala. Judge Bhangale upheld the submission of Additional Public Prosecutor R V Kini that applicant was allegedly involved in conspiracy of abduction and murder of Adnan and had supplied the tablets, which were mixed in Adnan's alcohol by the other accused persons. Autorickshaw strike deferred till September 30

Mumbai, Sep 3 (UNI) The proposed strike called by autorickshaw drivers union against installation of electronic meters and printers in the rickshaws was today deferred till September 30, after an assurance by Maharashtra Minister for Environment Dharmarao Baba Atram. The strike was scheduled for September 5 and 6 across the state. Birla Cement's production up by 7.32 per cent

Mumbai, Sep 3 (UNI) Cement major Aditya Birla Group's cement production has moved up by 7.32 per cent for the period April-August 2007 at 128.02 lakh metric tonnes as against 119.29 lakh mt in the corresponding period of the previous year. The dispatches grew by 6.88 per cent at 127.32 lakh mt for the same period as compared to 119.13 mt in the corresponding period of the last year, the company statement said here today.
