Statement of MP recorded in Minister murder case

Patna, Sep 3 (UNI) A local court today recorded the statement of MP Surajbhan Singh and MLA Vijay Kumar Shukla, accused in the murder case of a former Minister of Bihar.

The statement was recorded by Additional District and Sessions judge of Patna S P N Singh.

Answering the questions of the court, Mr Singh and Mr Shukla denied their complicity in the murder of former Minister.

Mr Singh and Mr Shukla were among the ten accused facing the trial.

Former Minister of Science and Techonology department of Bihar Brij Bihari Prasad was shot dead in the premises of Indira Gandhi Institute of Patna on June 13,1998.

Earlier, CBI had closed its evidence in the case after producing 62 witnesses.

The court fixed September 5, 2007, the date for evidence to be produced by the accused in their defence.

Rs one crore morphine seized in UP capital, 2 held

Lucknow, Sep 3 (UNI) The Crime Branch team of police today unearthed a smuggling syndicate in Gomti Nagar area of the Uttar Pradesh capital with the arrest of two persons possessing morphine, estimated at Rs one crore in the international market. Acting on a tip-off, cops reached near the Gomti Nagar Barrage and nabbed Abdul and Zakir Ali. On being frisked, one kg morphine was recovered from their possession. Lucknow, Sep 3 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati today extended warm wishes to people on the eve of Janamashtami, the birthday of Lord Krishna. Consumer Forums oppose revision of power tariff

Bangalore, Sep 3 (UNI) Various trade and commerce, consumer forums, farmers and housing societies today opposed the revision of power tariff of Rs 0.99 paise per unit by Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) saying that it would lead to an ''adverse chain reaction'' in their presentation before the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission. A Consumer Care Society representative told the Commission headed by CITU President K P Pande that the BESCOM had shown a surplus of Rs 265 crore and the tariff.....
