Siddaramaiah calls upon farmers to fight against Chemalapura plant

Mysore, Sep 3 (UNI) Former Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and Congress leader Siddaramaiah today called upon the farmers to fight against the proposed Rs 5,500 Crore Chamalapura Thermal Plant.

Addressing the farmers at Chamalapura village, near here, he urged the farmers not to sell their land for the plant.

Taking strong exception on a statement by Minister of Power H D Revanna to go ahead with the Plant despite strong protest, Mr Siddaramaiah alleged that the Minister has not taken into consideration the impact of the plant on environment and nearly 20,000 people who would be displaced.

Former Union Minister V Srinivasa Prasad, speaking on the occasion, urged the State government not to approve the project as it would lead to health hazard.

Both the leaders extended their support to the fight against the plant.

Meanwhile, farmers of Chamalapura and neighbouring villages staged a Rasta Roko on Mysore-Hunsur road for some time.

Chhapra, Sep 3(UNI) A local court today issued a warrant to attach property of former MLA from Masrakh, Tarkeshwar Singh in connection with kidnapping and subsequent killing during Lok Sabha elections held in 1999. Police seize huge explosives;Three arrested

Rayagada, Sep 03 (UNI) Rayagada police today arrested three persons and forwarded them to the court after huge cache of explosives were recovered from their possession during a raid yesterday. Police said during a raid at a godwan in Ambatola village huge explosives containing 3017 detonators, 21 gelatin, 125 pack ammonium nitrate and 107 bundle of codex wire were seized. Manipuri youth commits suicide in hotel

Varanasi, Sep 3 (UNI) A youth from Manipur allegedly committed suicide at a hotel in Sigra area here today by hanging himself. Krishna Kumar Singh (22), a native of Vishnupur district of Manipur, who had come to the city to appear in an SSB exam, committed suicide at his hotel room in Englishia Line area by hanging himself through the room ventillator, police said.
