Shinde to lay foundation stone for 1000 MW power project

Chennai, Sep 3 (UNI) Union Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde will lay the foundation stone for Vallur Thermal Power Project on September five in North Chennai Thermal Power Project Township in Ponneri Taluk in the presence of State Elecricity Minister Arcot N Veerasamy.

According to an official release here today, the 1000 MW project, costing an estimated Rs 5,400 crore, would supply 750 MW to Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) and the remaining to Kerala, Karnataka and Puducherry.

Located at Vallur Village of Ponneri Taluk in Tiruvallur District of Tamil Nadu, the joint venture between the NTPC and the TNEB would be implemented by the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) and Tamil Nadu Energy Company Limited (TNECL).

The 4.62 million tonne per annum coal requirement for the project would be met by the Mahanadhi Coal Field at Talcher in Orissa.

The TNEB was one of the best performing power utilities with the lowest transmission and distribution losses of 18 per cent and highest collection efficiency of 99 per cent, the release claimed.

Karnataka government release Rs 100 as industrial subsidy

Sirsi, Sep 3 (UNI) Karnataka Small Scale Industries Minister Shivanand Naik today said that Rs 100 crore had been allocated in the current budget to clear long pending subsidy to the SSI and SMEs in the state. Talking to newsmen here today the minister said that government has already sanctioned Rs.75 crore for the purposes. The file was with Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa who is also the Finance Minister and it would be cleared very shortly, he added......

Man tries to commit suicide inside CPI(M) headquarters

Kolkata, Sep 3(UNI) A man tried to commit suicide by immolating himself inside the CPI(M) state committee headquarters here today, creating a flutter in the political circle. Debabrata Choudhury, 42, who made his entry inside the CPI(M) office feigning as a party member and the brother of an MLA, doused himself with kerosene in a bathroom. But when he came out and tried to light up a match stick, security men immediately caught him. Police said the man, hailing from Baruipur.....

Warrant to attach former MLA's property

Chhapra, Sep 3(UNI) A local court today issued a warrant to attach property of former MLA from Masrakh, Tarkeshwar Singh in connection with kidnapping and subsequent killing during Lok Sabha elections held in 1999. Judicial Magistrate B B Tripathi issued the warrant after Mr Singh failed to appear before the court in connection with the case despite proclamation notice issued against him earler. According to the charges, Mr Singh was involved in kidnapping and subsequent killing of one Balister Singh alias.....
