Security beefed up in TN following intelligence alert

Chennai, Sep 3 (UNI) Security was today beefed up across Tamil Nadu following an alert by the central intelligence agencies about possible terror attacks.

The terror alert was received by the State DGP, Chennai City Police Commissioner Nanjil Kumaran told newspersons here.

Following the twin bomb blasts in Hyderabad on August 25, police had enhanced security at all important installations.

''In the wake of the terror alert sounded by the central intelligence agencies, market places and crowded areas in the city have being provided an additional security cover,'' he added.

Mr Kumaran said a general alert was issued by the Intelligence Bureau (IB) to all the states about ''certain designs by certain terrorist elements...'' He also said the City police did not have any specific information about the operations of the Bangladesh-based HuJI.

Fertiliser distribution be made more effective: Jamuna

Bhopal, Sep 3 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh Assembly Opposition Leader Jamuna Devi today accused Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan of politicising chemical fertiliser issue and demanded that distribution procedure be made more effective and regularly monitored. In a statement issued here today, Ms Devi said Mr Chouhan had been making political statements against the Centre with the objective of hiding inefficiency and irregularities in fertiliser distribution. Chennai, Sep 3 (UNI) Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) President G M Banatwala today charged the ruling LDF in Kerala with ''flagrant violation'' of minoritiy rights and acting against the interests of Muslims. Kolkata, Sep 3 (UNI) Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee today asserted that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) drew the curtain on the investigation into the theft of Rabindranath Tagore's Nobel prize under sheer political pressure.
