SCOPE awards to be presented by Dev on Sep 5

New Delhi, Sep 3 (UNI) Heavy Industries Minister Santosh Mohan Dev will present the SCOPE meritorious awards in specialised fields for 2005-06 on September 5.

The Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE) has instituted six awards in environmental excellence and sustainable development; research and development and innovation; best practice in human resource management; corporate social responsibility and responsiveness; good corporate governance; and, best managed PSE set up under Section 25.

The awards are presented to recognise significant achievements of member public enterprises in various fields leading to business excellence and competitive advantage, and to encourage and motivate them to achieve higher goals of excellence.

Mr Dev will also inaugurate the '3rd Directors Certification Programme on Corporate Governance'.

Dr R C Panda, Secretary, Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, will deliver the keynote address, while Mr Sarthak Behuria, Chairman, SCOPE, will preside over the function, an official release said here today.

Four notorious smugglers arrested in Munger

Munger, Sep 3 (UNI) Police have arrested four notorious smugglers from a hotel under Kotwali police station in the district here today. Acting on a tip-off, local police raided a hotel in the city and arrested the smugglers, suspected to be belonging to an interstate gang, police sources here informed and added that nine country-made pistols and several live cartridges were recovered from their possession. Body remains to be handed over to family after 6 months of murder

Mumbai, Sep 3 (UNI) A Sessions court today directed police to hand over the body parts of a person whose body was exhumed after six months of murder on the basis of information provided by the accused to his family. HC directs Ramadoss to sign degrees

New Delhi, Sep 3: In a setback to Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss, the Delhi High Court today directed him to sign the degrees issued to 49 MBBS scholars of All India India Institute of Medical Sciences which the Minister had held ''invalid''. Justice S Ravinder Bhatt directed Dr Ramadoss, who is also President of AIIMS, to put his signature on the 49 degrees issued by the Institute also signed by Dean (Examinations), a post held invalid by the Minister.
