Rs 18 crore spent for development works in Mewat region

Chandigarh, Sept 3 (UNI) Haryana Government has spent a sum of over Rs 18 crore with a view to provide thrust on the education, health, agriculture, community development, animal husbandry and dairying, industrial training and other works of community development in the Mewat region of the State during the last 30 months.

An official spokesman said here today that during the last two and a half year, an amount of Rs. 5.56 crore was incurred for education, Rs. 97 lakh for health, Rs. 8.57 crore for agriculture, Rs 3.17 crore for community development and Rs. 50 lakh were spent for development of various community projects in the Mewat area, which is geographically known as the backward tract of the State.

He said that the State Government had been making concerted efforts to improve the quality of education for the children of Mewat by providing financial help to six model schools of Mewat.

In the girls hostel at Nuh, free board and lodging facilities were being provided to the girl students of Mewat. About 50 girls of Mewat area were admitted in the JBT course out of which 50 per cent seats were reserved for the girls of Muslim community.

The spokesman said that with a view to bringing awareness as to health care as many as 34 health camps were organised in the Mewat area with the help of the State Health Department.

As many as 30 community halls or chaupals and 115 rooms in various schools were got constructed in this area, he added. He said that for improving the aptitude of the students towards technical education, scholarships and tool kits were made available to the students of three ITIs, two vocational centres and Government Polytechnic, Uttawar of Mewat area.

Similarly, the spokesman said that the State Government had initiated a number of other projects which included low pressure drip irrigation, formation of self help groups for women, increase of seats in technical institutes with a view to giving boost to rural development of this area.

Rohtak Commissioner to probe Gohana violence

Chandigarh, Sep 3 (UNI) The Haryana Government has appointed Rohtak Division Commissioner J P Kaushik as Inquiry Officer, to probe the circumstances and events subsequent to the killing of Dalit Youth Rakesh alias Lara in Gohana of district Sonipat on August 27. An official spokesman said the Inquiry Officer would hold a probe regarding this case at Irrigation Rest House, Gohana on September 10. Agony of disability of accident victims to be considered: SC

New Delhi, Sep 3 (UNI) The Supreme Court has held that while deciding the quantum of compensation for the victims of road accidents, the sufferings of disability undergone by the victim must be taken into consideration. A bench comprising Justices S B Sinha and Harjit Singh Bedi while dismissing the appeal of Andhra Pardesh State Road Transport Corporation(APSRTC) with cost of Rs 25,000 noted, "We therefore, fail to visualise that in a case of this nature a claimant can be deprived.....
