Rains fail to soothe weather in the city

Kolkata, Sep 3 (UNI) A few spells of rainfall today brought the much-needed relief to the people in the city but only for a few hours and later on, the day remained humid as usual.

Maximum temperature was pegged at 32.6 degrees Celsius while the minimum was 26.6 degrees Celsius.

The Met recorded maximum relative humidity of 92 per cent and the minimum of 70 per cent.

There was rainfall measuring about 6.5 mm, said Met officials.

Alipore weathermen predicted partly cloudy sky with a spell of rain or thunder showers in the city and its suburbs during the next 24 hours.

Country's exports up 18% in July

New Delhi, Sep 3 (UNI) Country's exports went up by 18.52 per cent to 12,494.11 million dollars in July-2007 from 10,542.14 million dollars in July 2006. However, in rupee terms, the increase was merely 3.10 per cent to Rs 50,493.57 crore, an official statement said today. Country's imports during July-2007 also registered an increase of 20.40 per cent to 17,508.63 million dollars from 14,542.21 million dollars in July-2006. NHRC notice to Gujarat, Rajasthan on child labour

New Delhi, Sept 3 (UNI) The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notices to Governments of Gujarat and Rajasthan on reported trafficking of children, including girls, from the two states. Taking suo -motu cognizance of a news report, the Commission has directed the Chief Secretaries of Gujarat and Rajasthan to submit a factual report within four weeks. Indo-Swedish trade up 55% in 2006-07

New Delhi, Sep 3 (UNI) India today called upon Sweden to help their small and medium industries to invest in the country to take advantages of cost benefits and growing market.
