Pondy to implement ACP

Puducherry, Sep 3 (UNI) The Puducherry administration will implement the Assured Career Progression (ACP) scheme for teachers in the Union Territory, Chief Minister N Rangasamy said today.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr Rangasamy said the matter was taken up with the Centre and concurrence obtained. The ACP would be implemented with retrospective effect from 1999, entailing an additional expenditure of Rs one crore per annum to the exchequer .

As many as 3,000 teachers would be beneficiaries of the scheme.

The Rs 66-crore works on the Karaikal-Nagore railway line would start next month he said adding the aministration would contribute 50 per cent of the cost, subject to approval by the Centre.

Left parties to protest nuke deal, joint naval exercises

Assam Police release photos of Guwahati blast suspects

Guwahati, Sept 3 (UNI) Assam police today released the photographs of two prime suspects, believed to be ULFA cadres, in the September one blast in the city. A powerful blast had rocked the Bamunimaidam area of the city just before noon on Saturday, leaving one person dead and more than 12 wounded.
