Nawanshahar distt to be named after Shaheed Bhagat Singh

Amritsar, Sep 3 (UNI) The Punjab government has proposed to change the name of Nawanshahar district to Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, in memory of the great martyr.

A proposal in this context has been sent by the state government to the central government, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal disclosed here today.

Khatkar Kalan, the native village of Shaheed Bhagat Singh falls in this district.

The state government is celebrating the 150th birth anniversary of Shaheed Bhagat Singh on September 28 at Amritsar. The President and Prime Minister are expected to attend this function.

MPCC demands PM to waive of loans of small farmers

Mumbai, Sep 3 (UNI) Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Prabha Rau today said the party has demanded that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh waive loans of small farmers up to an amount of Rs 30,000. Talking to reporters, Ms Rau said the waiving of interest by banks had not benefitted the farmers.
