Moderate showers cool Delhi, mercury down to 34.8 deg C

New Delhi, Sep 3 (UNI) Delhi's tryst with pleasant weather continued today with light to moderate showers lashing the Capital city this afternoon, bringing the mercury down to 34.8 degree Celsius.

The showers, which hit Delhi at around 1300 hours, helped maintain the relief for Delhiites from heat and humidity of last week.

Although only 2.4 mm of rainfall was recorded till 1730 hours, the showers, together with cool Easterly winds, brought the maximum temperature down to 34.8 Degree Celsius, from 35.1 Degree C yesterday.

The minimum temerature also fell to 25.5 degrees C, one degree below normal.

For the second consective day today, Delhiites woke up to an overcast sky.

Weathermen attribute the overcast sky and showers in Delhi yesterday and today to the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation currently lying over Orissa and neighbourhood area.

With the pressisting influence of the cyclonic storm persisting, weathermen have forecast more spells of rainfall over Delhi and other plains of Northwest India during the next 48 hours.

The Met office has forecast a generally cloudy sky in Delhi during the next 24 hours with possibility of rain and thundershowers in a few areas.

India produces 10,500 MW renewable power

New Delhi, Sep 3 (UNI) India produced over 10,467 megawatt of renewable power in June this year as against potential of 84,776 MW, Parliament has been informed. Of the grid-interactive renewable power, wind power topped the chart at 7,231 MW, followed by small hydro power at 2,013, according to Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy Vilas Mutttemwar. Bio power comprised 1,221 MW, while solar power was abysmally low at 2.12 MW, he said, adding solar energy has yet to.....

All women temple opens gates for male devotees on Janmashtami

Phagwara, Sept 3 (UNI) A unique temple here, ''managed by women exclusively for women,'' today opened its gates for male devotees on the auspicious occasion of Janmashtami. The ''Shri Sindooran Devi Temple'', where men are otherwise debarred, saw a long queue of male devotees thronging to pay obeisance since early this morning. The temple was tastefully decorated by women volunteers, who were also involved in the rituals, making and distribution of prasad and managing the crowds to ensure that all.....

ISRO PR Director Krishna Murthy cremated

Bangalore, Sep 3 (UNI) The body of ISRO Publications and Public Relations Director S Krishna Murthy, who succumbed to his injuries in a road accident in Tirupati on September 1, was cremated here today. ISRO Chairman Madhavan Nair, Additional Secretary S V Ranganath, Joint Secretary R G Nadudur, ISRO Centre Director K S Shankara and senior scientists were among others who paid last respects to the departed soul. Mr Krishna Murthy was seriously injured in the accident at Sangampalli on.....
