MICLUN warns of exposing ''corrupt officials''

Aizawl, Sep 3 (UNI) The Mizoram Cultivators and Labourers Union (MICLUN) has warned of revealing names of 'corrupt officials' in the state government at a rally slated for September 19.

MICLUN president K C Lalliana here today said, ''We will reveal the names of corrupt officials and submit a complaint to the High Court demanding action against them on September 19.'' Mr Lalliana alleged that they had received several threats from officials, yet they would not call off the march.

''We are ready to fight till the end. If we all end up in jail because of our actions, then so be it,'' the president claimed.

He also rubbished rumours that the MICLUN was in league with the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) adding that the allegations arose because the union office was situated in the same building which housed the MNF headquarters.

''Neither do we have any links with the MNF nor have we received any donations from the state officials. We stand for the rights of the people, the poor and the underprivileged and will not bow down before any minister,'' he claimed.

Meanwhile, the Zoram Kuthnathawktu Pawl (ZKP), a Farmers' and Manual Labourers' Association, merged with Anti-corruption Organisation PRISM(People's Right to Information and Development Implementing Society of Mizoram) ''to work together for a better Mizoram.'' The agreement was signed between PRISM president Vanlalruata and ZKP chief Thanbanglova at Saitual on August 31.

Both the organisations alleged that the corrupt politicians have deprived the people of their rightful share.

''Despite increasing funds, the development work has been unsatisfactory. The government has failed to address the farmers' plight and hence the need for a good government that will embrace all sections. If this situation continues, our state will soon become a land of turmoil where rebels and criminals operate freely,'' Mr Vanlalruata said.

The new partners are planning a statewide tour, while inviting ''like-minded'' people or organisations to join the bandwagon.

ZKP and PRISM, both anti-incumbent organisations, have made it clear that they were aloof from any political movement taking place ahead of the next Assembly polls.
