Man tries to commit suicide inside CPI(M) headquarters

Kolkata, Sep 3(UNI) A man tried to commit suicide by immolating himself inside the CPI(M) state committee headquarters here today, creating a flutter in the political circle.

Debabrata Choudhury, 42, who made his entry inside the CPI(M) office feigning as a party member and the brother of an MLA, doused himself with kerosene in a bathroom. But when he came out and tried to light up a match stick, security men immediately caught him.

Police said the man, hailing from Baruipur in South twenty four Parganas district, had been arrested.

An investigation was on to ascertain the reason for his suicide attempt, police said.

Manipuri youth commits suicide in hotel

Varanasi, Sep 3 (UNI) A youth from Manipur allegedly committed suicide at a hotel in Sigra area here today by hanging himself. Krishna Kumar Singh (22), a native of Vishnupur district of Manipur, who had come to the city to appear in an SSB exam, committed suicide at his hotel room in Englishia Line area by hanging himself through the room ventillator, police said. A suicide note in English, Rs 4,000 in cash and other belongings were recovered from the room,.....

Monica case: Court reserves order

Bhopal, Sept 3 (UNI) A local court today reserved its order in a fake passport case in which underworld don Abu Salem's starlet-girlfriend Monica Bedi was acquitted recently. District and Sessions Judge Renu Sharma reserved the order after hearing counsels of both sides. Monica, her father Prem Kumar Bedi, uncle Purushottam Bedi and brother were present in the court. Prosecution had filed a petition before the court after Monica was acquitted by Chief Judicial Magistrate A K Srivastava's court. Public.....

Khwaja Yunus case: HC raps police, Home department

Mumbai, Sep 3 (UNI) The Bombay High Court today came down heavily on the police and the Home department for not disclosing certain facts regarding the alleged custodial death of Sayyad Khwaja Yunus, an accused in the Ghatkopar bomb blast case of December 2002. It also directed a local court at Parner in Ahmednagar district to decide on a pending B-summary proceeding within four weeks time.
